Gabriola

A Gabriola Island waterfront acreage built by TS Williams Construction with interiors by HB Design — Wenner engaged at the framing stage and held the full integration scope through completion.

Built by TS Williams Construction with interiors by HB Design, this waterfront-acreage residence on Gabriola Island brought Wenner in at the framing stage — and kept the same integration team in place across the full build cycle. The result is a custom home where the technology was designed in alongside the architecture rather than fitted on at the end.

Wenner held the entire technical and electrical scope under one roof: electrical service and standby power; Crestron lighting control throughout, with engraved keypads and scene-based programming; distributed audio and video across every zone; motorised shading on the principal sightlines; the network backbone and security as one fabric — wireless coverage indoors and out, IP cameras at the gate and exterior, hardwired leak detection tied directly to the alarm app and shut-off logic; and a custom-housed gate intercom finished to match the property hardware.

The remote island context shaped a number of the more interesting decisions. Power continuity, network resilience, and serviceability were planned in from the first set of drawings — not retrofitted at handover. Scope evolved over several years of construction, with revisions tracking the design’s progression; the throughline was a single integration team holding the design intent across every change, in close coordination with the builder and the designer.

A summer kitchen extension delivered later in the project reads as a native continuation of the existing systems — same audio sources, same Crestron keypads, patio heaters under direct control, additional wireless coverage and an exterior camera. The space reads as part of the house, not an add-on.

Post-handover, Gabriola sits on continuous Wenner monitoring — the long-term partnership model the practice is built around, where the home doesn’t go quiet at the end of construction.
