Standby Power & Backup — Wenner residence in Cowichan Valley
Cowichan Valley

An hour from a working demonstration of the platform.

The Cowichan Valley — Duncan, Cobble Hill, Cowichan Bay, Maple Bay, Mill Bay — is one of Wenner's long-standing catchments, sitting roughly halfway between the Victoria and Nanaimo Experience Centres. The region's mix of waterfront, vineyard, and rural acreage builds keeps the team moving through regularly, and the Maple Bay Timber Frame project (Bayview, in the portfolio) is a recent reference build.

Standby Power

Standby Power & Backup.

Vancouver Island's power grid is a known hazard during winter storms. Wenner's primary backup-power practice is Kohler standby generator installation — automatic transfer switches, fuel routing (natural gas or propane), sound-attenuated enclosures, and integration into the home's Crestron or Lutron platform. Battery storage (Enphase) is deployed on selected projects where it's the right fit; solar PV array installation is delivered by specialist partners on projects where solar is part of the brief, with Wenner providing the integration coordination.

  • Kohler standby generators — sized to whole-home or critical-load coverage.
  • Automatic transfer switches with seamless cutover during outages.
  • Fuel routing — natural gas where available, propane on Gulf Islands and rural acreages.
  • Integration into the home's Crestron or Lutron platform — visible status on the touch panels.
  • Enphase IQ Battery integration on selected projects; solar PV via specialist partners.
  • Coordinated with the electrical service under Wenner's BC electrical contractor licence (LEL0003189).

How we work

Pre-engineered off-site. Installed on-site by our team.

Every Wenner project follows the same disciplined workflow. The system is pre-engineered at our design centre well before it ships to site, so the on-site phase is dramatically faster, more predictable, and more reliable.

  • Rack builds and pre-engineering at our design centre. Equipment racks, control processors, network gear, and bespoke programming are assembled, configured, and tested at our Nanaimo or Victoria centre before anything ships to site — the system is essentially functional before it leaves our hands.
  • Wenner team on site for the critical phases. Rough-in, final install, commissioning, and testing are handled directly by the Wenner integration team.
  • One accountable party. Wenner remains the single technical and management authority on the project, in close coordination with the architect, the interior designer, the builder, and the homeowner.
  • The same long-term relationship. Same coordination during construction, same commissioning standard at handover, same aftercare through WennerCare.

The same workflow delivers Wenner projects far beyond Vancouver Island — most recently a completed residence in Mexico City, and an active project in Oregon through our sister company Intuitiv Spaces.
