Security cameras & CCTV.
HD and 4K cameras for homes and businesses across Vancouver Island. Live view from your phone, recorded video stored locally on a network video recorder (no monthly fees), professional-grade night vision, and motion alerts when something matters.
Camera types we install.
Different cameras for different jobs. We design the camera package around what you actually want to see — entries, parking, perimeter, points of sale, common areas — not a generic "8 cameras" package.
Outdoor bullet & turret cameras
Weather-rated cameras for entries, driveways, parking lots, and perimeter. Available in HD (1080p), 4MP, or 4K resolution. Wide-angle and telephoto options. Built-in IR for night vision to 100ft. Bullet style for visible deterrent, turret style for lower profile.
Doorbell cameras
Two-way audio, motion alerts, package detection. Wired (recommended for reliability) or battery (for retrofit). HD video to your phone the moment someone approaches the door. Integrate with the alarm system for unified notifications.
Indoor cameras
Discreet indoor coverage for entry foyers, living rooms (where appropriate), garages, mechanical rooms, and commercial floors. Most include two-way audio and pet/person detection.
PTZ (pan-tilt-zoom) cameras
Motorised cameras that pan 360°, tilt, and zoom in. Ideal for large open areas — large yards, parking lots, commercial floors, marine docks. Can follow movement automatically with intelligent tracking.
Specialty cameras
Licence-plate-recognition cameras for gated properties, multi-sensor (180° / 360°) panoramic cameras, thermal cameras for marine and waterfront, and fisheye cameras for compact spaces.
How recording works.
Network Video Recorder (NVR)
The hub of the camera system. Lives in a secure equipment room or closet. Records all cameras 24/7 (or motion-only) to encrypted local storage. We recommend NVR-based systems over cloud-only for reliability and privacy.
Storage capacity
Sized to your retention needs — typically 30 days of continuous recording across 4–8 cameras, expandable to 90+ days. Hard drives are surveillance-rated (Western Digital Purple) for 24/7 write reliability.
Mobile viewing
Live view, recorded video review, two-way audio, and motion alerts from any iOS, Android, or web device. Single app supports multiple cameras across multiple properties.
Cloud backup (optional)
Secondary off-site backup of clips or full recording. Useful in case of physical theft of the NVR. Adds $10–$30/month depending on retention and camera count.
Smart motion detection
Modern cameras distinguish between people, vehicles, animals, and inanimate movement (leaves, rain). You can configure alerts to fire only on people or vehicles — drastically reducing false notifications.
Integration with alarm
If you also have a SmartSecure alarm system, the cameras integrate with it — alarm event triggers immediate camera clip review on your phone, and visual verification helps the monitoring station respond faster.
What a camera system costs.
All prices include cameras, NVR, professional installation, mounting, cabling, and configuration. Cloud backup optional.
Existing camera systems can often be integrated with new cameras rather than replaced. We assess what's working and what needs replacement before quoting.
Common questions.
Do I need to pay a monthly fee for cameras?
Not necessarily. We install cameras that record locally to a network video recorder (NVR), which means no monthly fee for storage. Cloud backup is optional and adds about $10–$30 per month depending on retention.
How long is video stored?
On a typical NVR setup, 30 days of recording on continuous mode for 4–8 cameras. Longer if cameras are set to motion-trigger only. Storage can be expanded — we size the recorder to your retention needs.
Can I view cameras from my phone?
Yes. Live view, recorded video review, two-way audio (on cameras that support it), and motion notifications — all from iOS, Android, or web. The same app supports multiple properties if you have more than one home or business.
What's the difference between HD and 4K cameras?
4K cameras capture roughly 4× the detail of HD cameras, which matters when you want to read a licence plate, identify a face at distance, or zoom in on a recording later. We recommend 4K for high-value coverage (driveway, entry points, parking lots) and HD for general coverage where pixel count matters less.
Do cameras work at night?
Yes. Modern cameras have built-in IR (infrared) illumination good for 30–100 ft of clear black-and-white video in total darkness. Some premium cameras shoot full-colour at night using starlight sensors and ambient ambient light.
Can the cameras hear?
Some, yes. Two-way audio cameras (typically doorbells and select indoor cameras) let you speak with the person on camera. Outdoor cameras vary — we choose based on what you want.
Is video footage admissible as evidence?
Yes. We install cameras with proper time-stamping and record original (untouched) video files to a tamper-resistant NVR. Clips can be exported for police or insurance use.
What about privacy — neighbours, etc.?
BC privacy law requires reasonable use. Cameras pointed at your own property, driveway, and entries are fine; cameras pointed at a neighbour's yard or windows are not. We design camera angles to avoid neighbour intrusion. Posted signage that the property is under video surveillance is recommended.
